3 Tips for the Super Mom Brain & Money Talk

We all know a woman’s brain works differently from a man’s. Did you know a woman’s brain goes into superior overdrive once she becomes a Mom?  With this kind of computer power – women can tackle, learn and succeed with anything around money talk.  We just need to deliver the information and discussions differently.

Here’s some quick knowledge on how powerful the female brain can be.

 The Female Brain:

  1. Has 4x the connections between left and right brains than a man
  2. Can think rationally & emotionally at the same time
  3. Thinks at 30,000 feet about implications to the future, society, her family
  4. Can feel empathy, read people, and understand what they’re thinking
  5. Is possibly the best living/breathing multi-tasker on planet earth according to Dr. A.K. Pradeep in “The Buying Brain”.

In Addition, The Mom Brain:

  1. Becomes superefficient at multi-tasking
  2. Works effectively with her tribal group to manage the day
  3. Needs empathy and understanding while also giving it
  4. Rejects anything that doesn’t immediately meet her needs

How Women and Advisors Can Use This Knowledge:

1. 4x the Left/Right Brain Connectivity. Men may perceive that women ask questions not associated with the financial discussion at hand.  They’re likely wrong – women are thinking not only about the numbers, but about value fit, family, and social ramifications of those numbers. Questions should not be discounted, but probed to understand the woman’s concerns better.

2. The Capacity and Need for Empathy Just as women can read people and understand what they’re feeling/thinking, they expect the same of others in return. Have empathy for their precious time, their concern for the world, and their potential learning curve.

3. Leverage the Computer Multi-tasking Power: The money world is full of paperwork, jargon, and bureaucracy.  Talk about the process needed from start to finish to define money goals or make product choices. Break the effort into chunks, clarify accountabilities, and then let women loose to get it done.
