A huge impediment to dealing with shopping addiction, and other technological addictions, is that there is little research on the effectiveness of interventions in dealing with shopping, internet or video obsessions. That said, there are programs that can help shopping addicts, and getting a loved one into such programs is an important first step toward healing. Some of the methods that work for excessive shoppers are personal therapy, 12 step groups, group therapy and other alternative treatments. It is important to recognize the symptoms of shopping addiction such as financial problems and being unable to stop. Then, perhaps, it’s time to organize an intervention.
