Championing Women for +30 Years
I worked in the financial services world for +30 years, fighting to prove that women deserve equal pay, and could do any job a man could. After 30 years, reaching svp level, women had moved from 69 cents for every $1 a man made, to 82 cents.
This was not enough! So I decided to become a Financial Coach, helping women use their money wisely where they are today. I began with a mission to help women break out of money vagueness, denial, shame, embarrassment and fear after seeing too many clients and colleagues live through money horror stories.
Financial Coach to Financial Therapist
My goal is to help women learn money self-care and have their own wealth, independence, choices, and control over their lives. As my Financial Coaching business grew, I began expanding my knowledge on the money psychology side, training with Psychotherapist & Founder of MoneyHarmony Olivia Mellan (see my bio below for more information on her).
Then, I met Psychologist Dr. April Benson Ph.D. We became not only colleagues but friends. We actually lived within 10 minutes of each other, which suggests the universe clearly conspired to bring us together.
Adding Speciality in Shopping Addiction
Dr. Benson and I realized that the intersection of deep financial work with a proven compulsive shopping program could benefit clients. There is indeed a powerful, effective synergy in combining therapy with financial acumen. I had the privilege of coaching overshopping clients under 18 months of clinical supervision by April. In addition to running my own firm Behavioral Cents, LLC, April asked my to buy her business which we completed in October 2020 during COVID. Helping women gives me great joy.
We lost Dr. April Benson on March 29, 2021. It took a while to manage the grief, and then I decided to focus on the living by building April’s legacy even more. My partner Brian and I remain friends with Jim Benson.
