Becoming Minimalist blogger Joshua Becker suggests we are, and believes the trade is a foolish one. These pursuits are self-centered, and don’t really satisfy. Instead, he says to trade our lives for social justice, significance, creating beautiful art, giving joy to others and spiritual pursuits. Becker acknowledges that security is important, but once that has been achieved, we more fully live up to our potential by pursuing and valuing things of greater importance, both for ourselves and for the world.
